Our video game conference is all about promoting great voice acting in video games. If you work in video games or want to work in video games this event is for you! There will be a star studded line-up of speakers, BREAKOUT WORKSHOP Sessions, INTENSIVE WEEKEND Workshops and so much more announced here soon. Lunch is provided, there is plenty of opportunities to connect and some incredibly informative panels.
BREAKOUT WORKSHOP Sessions
Throughout #GYGOLA23 there will be opportunities for you to attend our limited and highly sought after Breakout Sessions. These Sessions are an amazing opportunity for you to work in small workshop-size groups directly on techniques that will grow your confidence alongside our iconic HEADLINE SPEAKERS! An incredibly popular part of our previous events.
- Tom Keegan – Auditioning for Performance Capture: Tom Keegan’s session focuses on the unique world of performance capture auditions. Participants will have the chance to experience a mock audition scenario, complete with pre-selected copy, and receive feedback. This workshop is an excellent opportunity to learn the ins and outs of auditioning for performance capture roles, which are prevalent in today’s video game industry.
- Andrea Toyias – Cracking the Case: Digging Deep into Your Auditions: Andrea Toyias, Casting Director of Blizzard Entertainment, will guide attendees through the audition process, helping them refine their skills and increase their chances of success. With insights, stories, and practical tips, this workshop aims to provide a deeper understanding of auditioning, ensuring that participants consistently deliver their best performances.
- Kim Hurdon – Efforts, Barks and Cries … Oh My!: Kim Hurdon’s session dives into the intense and physically demanding aspects of voice acting for video games. Attendees will explore battle chatter and combat sounds, making this an immersive and interactive experience. This workshop promises to be both fun and challenging, offering a unique perspective on the physicality required for video game voice acting.
- Michael Scott – Get In Da Game: Be A Playable Character!: Led by SAG-AFTRA Actor Michael Scott, this workshop focuses on the secrets of becoming a “Playable Character” in video games. Attendees will learn valuable tips, tricks, and performance techniques for realistic efforts, military call-outs, combat scenarios, and improvisation. The session emphasizes the importance of training and endurance for landing dream roles in video games.
- Randall Ryan – IT’S ALL ABOUT CHARACTER(S): Randall Ryan, a Casting and Session Director for video games, will help participants explore character development in voice acting. The workshop delves into the essence of embodying a role and creating believable characters. Attendees will work on cold reads with assigned scripts, going beyond vocal skills to understand the backstory, intentions, and situations that bring characters to life. This workshop is valuable for voice actors across various genres, emphasizing that voice acting is ultimately about character portrayal.

NPC Gaming VO with Kim Hurdon, Casting Director at KH Casting
This is where the bulk of video gaming work lies! 80% of AAA voice over work is done Non-Player Characters or Non-Playable Characters so knowing what the dev’s expectations are BEFORE you get booked is imperative if you want to get asked back. There is a high velocity of lines/hour that are made up of efforts, onos and/or walla along with barks/battle chatter which means that the vocal load is intense. You’ll learn how to audition properly, create characters and perform all of those elusive sounds from a casting/voice director that has thousands of hours of experience on “the other side of the glass”.
